Big B promoting Guj?

Bachchan seems to have stepped on his own foot. The Bollywood legend's decision to become the brand ambassador of Narendra Modi's Gujarat has drawn flak from different quarters.
And now danseuse and social activist Mallika Sarabhai has sent a letter ( full text on right) to Bachchan, asking him what prompted him to become the brand ambassador of a state which is reeling under poverty and has witnessed the killings of innocent Muslims.
In her letter, Sarabhai has reeled off statistics to show the state Gujarat is in today.
Sarabhai claimed that the state has a huge debt of close to Rs 1 lakh crore.
She also stated that over 75,000 small and medium businesses have shut shop while the state went into an overdrive to dole out subsidies to rich industrial houses.
Sarabhai's words found an echo in social activist Teesta Setalvad.
"Bachchan is not the brand ambassador of Gujarat. He is the brand ambassador for Modi who gave his film Paa tax concessions to the tune of Rs 8-10 crore," Setalvad said.
She claimed that Modi is trying to go in for an image makeover after the Supreme Court directed investigation agencies to question him for mass murder.
"That needs to be put on the forefront, not wiped under the carpet. It is good that Mallika has brought out these statistics about Gujarat. It is the ground reality," she said.

The special wedding invite has been sent to just 200 close friends that include Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav।

Shahrukh Khan, Dilip Kumar and socialite Parmeshwar Godrej do not find themselves in the guest list for the wedding, according to informed sources।

Selected guests have been invited for the wedding but some of Amitabh's closest friends, including industrialist Anil Ambani and Tina Ambani, politician Amar Singh and Sahara head Subroto Roy, are expected to be permanent fixtures over the three days, they said।

From Bollywood, director-producer Karan Johar and his mother Hiroo, director Goldie Behl and his wife Sonali Bendre, Anupam Kher, his wife Kirron and son Sikander, Ajay Devgun, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Jayaprada, Dimple Kapadia, Danny Dengzongpa, Yash Chopra, his son Aditya are among the invitees। Sachin Tendulkar, ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali are also among the invited।

The three-day wedding at the Bachchans' family home "Prateeksha" will see the Rais perform dance numbers set to step by Davar while Johar will have superstar Amitabh, wife Jaya and their children Abhishek and Shweta dance to his tunes.

The "mehendi" ceremony will be held on Thursday at Amitabh's bungalow "Jalsa" while the marriage rituals marked by traditional "saat phere" will take place on Friday at "Prateeksha".
Designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla will do the dresses for the wedding while Sufi singer Raahat Fateh Ali Khan will perform.
The food will be served by the Taj Mahal Hotel while various delicacies would be prepared under the watchful gaze of ace chef Marut Sikka.
It seems Amitabh wants to keep these special moments private as, sources said, that he has turned down a Rs 40- crore proposal from National Geography to film the wedding.
A three-tier security structure will protect the wedding venues, where Mumbai Police team will form the outermost protection ring while Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's Black Cat commandos will provide cover in close proximity.
The Bachchans consider Amar Singh to be a member of their family and his name along with his wife Pankaja and daughters Drishti and Divya find a mention on the invitation cards.
The wedding cards also carries the names Shweta Nanda, Aishwarya's mother Vrinda and father B K Rai.

But Aishwarya Rai has no plans to quit industry after getting married to Abhishek Bachchan. She is already busy in shooting of movies that are going to release after the wedding. She is playing the role of Jodha in the upcoming movie Jodha-Akbar which is already most talked about movie in the industry at this moment. She also has some projects that would start after her getting married to Abhishek Bachchan.
A close source to Aishwarya told IANS, “She goes into all these assignments as soon as she completes ‘Jodha-Akbar’. There’s absolutely no reason to think she’d quit working after marriage. Everyone in the two families is very supportive of Aishwarya’s career. And that includes Jaya Bachchan.”
In the past we have seen Bollywood film-makers trying to earn some cash by presenting the real life couples in the movies. Like the classic Yash Chopra movie Silsila. At that time there were rumors in media about the affair between Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha. Amitabh Bachchan married Jaya Bhaduri before the filming of this movie but director earned some cold hard cash by making a movie on a real life love triangle.
This time these film makers might try to cast Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan together in a movie. But since Aishwarya Rai has already denied working with Salman Khan, we can assume that they would sign up either Hrithik Roshan or John Abraham to play the role of Salman Khan in a movie which will be slightly based on Aishwarya’s real life love affair. Bachchan’s are one of the most powerful families in the industry and it seems like they are a little conservative as well. But I feel that they are basically professional actors and if such a film is offered to Aishwarya and Abhishek without Salman Khan being a part of the package they won’t hesitate to work in it. Audiences are surely going to love such a movie.

The judges- Rohit Bal, Subhash Ghai, Rathi Vinay Jha, Malvindar Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Madhur Bhandarkar, Adnan Sami and Ujwala Raut- had a tough time choosing the winners.
Pooja Gupta of New Delhi bagged the Miss India Universe title. Sarah Jane Dias of Mumbai won the Miss India World title and the third winner was Pooja Chitgopekar, a doctor from New Zealand.
The show had former Miss World Lara Dutta sizzle to a medley of songs from ‘Laila Mein Laila’ to ‘Kajra Re’.

London, (IANS) Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan became the latest Indian to be featured in the Madame Tussauds museum when his life-size wax statue was unveiled here Tuesday morning.
Shah Rukh is the third Indian actor to figure in the popular tourist attraction - the other two are Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. The actor was present with his family when his statue was unveiled.
The decision to have a wax model of King Khan was based on feedback received from thousands of visitors and tourists who visit the museum featuring prominent personalities every year.
A spokesman of the museum said that Shah Rukh's statue reflected the growing popularity of Indian films in Britain, which are now watched not only by British Asians but others too.
Guests will be allowed to stand next to Shah Rukh's duplicate and take pictures. The backdrop of the statue could be changed - to one from the star's latest hit "Don", the spokesman added.
Other Indians featuring in the museum include former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi..

Director - producer Ram Gopal Varma believes in doing things different from others, whether it's 'Darna Mana Hai' or 'Darna Zaroori Hai'. Ramu knows how to handle the audience and that's why he is always in the news and his movies are hit at the box office. Nowadays, Ramu is in the news for his two movies: one is 'Sholay Part II" and the other is 'Nishabd' starring Amitabh Bachchan and a newcomer Jiya. The movie is based on the relationship between a young girl and an old man. This movie has already given birth to so many rumors. According to one, a novel 'Lolita' has inspired 'Nishabd', but the director denies it and claims that the story of 'Nishabd' is fresh and not a copy or an inspired one from anywhere. According to Varma, 'Nisabd' is the story of a photographer named Vijay (played by Amitabh Bachchan) and a young and sexy gal Jiya. During the vacation, Jiya visits her friend's home. However, her friend meets with an accident and asks her father (Amitabh Bachchan) to help Jiya by taking her for sight seeing. During the sight seeing, Jiya falls in love with Amitabh Bachchan though the latter is as old as her father. While talking about Amitabh Bachchan, Ramu says, "I had signed Amitabh Bachchan for my 'Sholay II', but I could not start it on time due to some reason. So, I decided to make a small film with Amitji. In spite of this, Amitabh is very excited with 'Nishabd'. He says that Ramu has planned the film very well. The shooting of the movie has been completed in twenty days. When asked about Jiya, the Big B says that she is a very talented girl. "While working with her I have never felt that she is a newcomer."

Prem and Poonam meet each other at the family’s insistence, but they are immediately drawn to each other. Prem is drawn to Poonam’s simplicity and Poonam finds him to be generous and caring. Prem and Poonam discover that they have many things in common and like each other very much. They agree to get engaged and are soon to be married in six months. In these six beautiful months when they are engaged they grow to love each other deeply, they spend time together and develop feelings for each other that are sincere and deep. In many ways a feminist tragedy, the melodrama is tempered with stirring performances of ghazals, poem sung in Urdu, and a sumptuous attention to detail in settings and costume. Don, Don Hindi movie reviews

“Don” is a fantastic movie from the seventies, purely because the entire concept of a gangster flick was a novelty. Much like the Beatles and Syd Barrett, you can’t appreciate Don if you don’t put yourselves in the seventies. When Don had to be remade for the Xbox generation, the team would have known that they were fighting a generation that was dominating the media.

When it came down to the star cast, it must have really been a no-brainer. As the man himself says, there are only two Khans, “Genghis Khan and Shahrukh Khan”. Shahrukh is the closest this generation would ever have to the Big B. Of course he has his Gay-spastic ways in his silly romantic capers, but he was still that man who could whip up frenzy before a release. He was that man who could give ten interviews in a day and make ten media savvy remarks in each. Shahrukh had to be “Don”.


Don begins in predictable fashion, with the story of the earlier movie. Bad Don dies, young bumpkin gets into his shoes to impersonate Don. A couple of women come and strut their wares. This is when the interval begins, and the 21st century Don really dawns. The story moves completely tangential to the original, with phenomenal fight scenes and cool car chases. Interesting twists in the tale that keep the viewer guessing, and a brilliant final sequence.

The coolest part of the movie, in my opinion, is the intelligent direction. There were some parts in the movie when I sat back and thought, “wait a minute.. could it be… ?”. In the last five minutes, I was proved right. There are hints throughout the movie. You just need to get hold of them, and you’ll have an extra-ordinary movie experience. Shahrukh makes bad look cool, after many years.
The advice to most people going to usual Hindi movies these days is, “Go on, It’s a good movie. Just leave your brains behind”. My advice to people who want to watch Don, “Go on. It’s a mind-blowing action thriller. And do take your brains along, and keep taking the hints. You’ll love it!"
