KANK was earlier scheduled to release in July but it has now been slated for August 11th, 2006. Karan says, “this film explores the darker side of human relationships and each of the characters has grey shades, unlike the previous goody-two-shoes characters of my films.” See This site

The film is about the romance of Jai (ShahRukh Khan) and Shalini (Rani Mukherji) who are married to Kiran (Preity Zinta) and Anand Bakshi (Abhishek Bachchan) respectively. Shalini is the daughter of Mohinder Singh (Amitabh Bachchan) a business tycoon, based in Delhi.

“I believe there are three types of marrieges. One are the compromised ones that is arranged marriage, second are love, where both the partners do full justice to a justified married life and third are those who do not realise their mistake and marry the wrong person just to meet the right mate some day. This is when they are trapped. What next? Should such marriage be stretched or should one chuck it for the sake of love? This is the crux KANK,” elaborates Karan.

As part of a marketing campaign, Preity Zinta will appear in the popular soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus to promote Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in the month of July.

While Karan claims that KANK is his original idea and refutes the claims that the story has been inspired by Yash Chopra’s Silsila, he says, “it was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black that inspired me to make a bold and mature film like Kabhi Alvida Na Kahnaa.


It seems the role swapping in the film was done ample number of times. The role played by Rani, was originally written for Kajol. When she put down the offer due to time constraint Rani got this role. Also the role now being played by Rani was earlier meant to be played by Preity. Finally when Kajol declined, Rani Mukherji got her role and Preity Zinta got Mukerji's former role.
